The much awaited Rs 200 banknotes may take another 3 months to reach ATMs
The much-awaited banknotes of Rs 200 denomination which were introduced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on August 25 are likely to take another three months to reach ATMs, according to media reports.

Due to the recalibration of the ATM machines, the time-period for dispensing of new currency notes could exceed to approximately 3 months.

Regarding this, some ATM companies have been asked to start testing with the new currency notes for recalibration of the machines which have yet not been recalibrated by the manufactures, as per reports. However, there is no official confirmation by the RBI over the news.

Earlier, the Central Bank had said that it would increase the supply of the new Rs 200 banknotes.

"The production of Rs 200 notes is being ramped up by the currency printing presses, and over time as more notes are printed, it will be distributed across the country through the banking channels and will be available for public in adequate quantity," RBI said in a press release.

At present, only selected RBI offices and banks are offering the newly issued Rs 200 banknotes.

The bright yellow coloured Rs 200 banknote is 66mm x 146mm in size; having a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the center, it also carries a logo of Swachh Bharat campaign with theslogan. Bearing the signature of RBI Governor – Urjit Patel, the new denomination note has a motif of the Sanchi Stupa on the reverse side.
